Rock Tumbling and Another Dig at the Park

I started the morning out checking on my batch of rocks I have going in the tumbler. The belt was making a weird sound and it seemed like the rotors were a bit sluggish so I decided to take the whole machine apart. After cleaning it up a bit its running smooth and is as good as new again.

Here are a few of my favorite rocks I have going in this batch. This is at the end of step 2 with the medium grit. There are a few pieces of petrified wood, a sea shell fossil, fossilized bone, agate, and a volcanic looking rock. I have no idea what the pink and orange banded rock is, I will have to try and look it up. Step 3 which is a pre-polish takes approximately a week in the tumbler to be ready for the final step. Another week on step 4 and these rocks should be looking good and in their final polished form.

Most of these rocks were found by my dad, or out rockhounding with him. Somehow we always seem to stumble upon some pretty neat stuff.

I also made a quick trip to a park about 3 minutes from my house. I have hunted the big open football fields there many times and always seem to pull out the same stuff. Its good for some guaranteed clad finds but have yet to pull anything too exciting. The Hot Wheels car was something new I haven't found before.

Here are most of my finds. I added a couple more Boondocks tokens to my collection, pretty soon I will be able to have a pretty fun trip to the arcade! I've decided my detector is a penny whisperer. Even though I can always tell its a penny, I can't seem to pass anything up. I keep telling myself I will be more picky but I'm starting to think no one loses quarters anymore, just these blasted Boondocks tokens....

Is the banded rock from our spring trip? It looks like it may be Jasper.
